Jefferson School library is a wonderful place for students to get lost in a book. They have many titles to choose from; our library has over 10,000 books. Students may come into the library during their lunch recess. They may choose to read check out a book, do research on the computer, play with an interactive world globe, read along with a book at the listening canter, or browse through a magazine.
Students visit the library with their classrooms once a week. During their weekly visit they have a story read to them. They may also check out a book during this time. Their library visit is thirty minutes.
When a student checks out a book they may borrow the book for one week. First through third grade students may take their books home. Kindergartners keep their books in the classroom. They may have one book checked out at a time. If the book is over two weeks overdue, a notice will be sent home.
For the 26th year, Jefferson school is participating in "Reading Is Fundamental." This is a program that is funded through the community and the state. Students are able to choose a book and keep it. They will choose a book to keep three times throughout the school year. This is a wonderful program that students love.
