Instruction and Leadership
As a site, we have been working at the State Frameworks and Content Standards and how they align with our curriculum. We have had two workshops and devoted several staff meetings to the subject. By targeting this area, we improved our API scores by 42 points.
One afternoon meeting per month is dedicated to curriculum improvement, including analyzing local measures to monitor all student progress. Planned interventions are scheduled around the core curriculum instruction in the classroom.
In summation, we are very proud of all the work the staff has done in an effort to improve our school instruction.
Positive Learning Environment
Jefferson School offers a wide range of enrichment clubs. They include Spanish, clay, science, arts and crafts, gymnastics and dance.
Red Ribbon Week is an event celebrated annually for drug awareness. Students participate in activities during this week to promote drug prevention.
School Safety
Jefferson’s School Emergency Plan is updated at the beginning of each school year. The Safety Plan addresses all emergency procedures that coincide with the school district’s plan. The Safety Plan is kept in the office and the office staff can access it for parents. The Incident Control System (ICS) map is updated and presented at the first staff meeting. We have monthly fire/earthquake drills. The principal goes over the procedures with the staff at the beginning of the year. School safety issues are also outlined in the handbook and the student handbook folder, which each child takes home. When visitors
arrive on campus, they check in and sign-in at the office, where they are each issued a volunteer or visitor tag.
Parental Involvement
Parents have the opportunity to become involved with Jefferson Elementary through these various programs: School Site Council (SSC), classroom volunteers, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Bank Day, after-school enrichment clubs, Fall Carnival, End-of-Year Carnival, Grandparents’ Day, Family
Reading Nights, and Family Fitness Night.
For more information on how to become involved, contact Julie Brandt, Principal, at (707) 894-1930 or via e-mail.
