Spanish 4/AP


Textbooks

Encuentros Maravillosos, Scott Foresman, focuses on grammar through modern Hispanic literature. Abriendo Paso Gramatica, Heinle and Heinle focuses on grammar instruction. AP Spanish, Preparing for the Language Examination, Prentice Hall, will be used with students taking the AP course. A variety of other resources will also be used throughout the year.

Course Description

Spanish 4/AP will be taught according to the national standards of foreign language. This course is designed for advanced Spanish speakers. The class will be taught in Spanish. The objectives in the class are to improve students' communication skills, both in oral and written form. Students are expected to speak Spanish in the classroom at all times. It is a fast-paced course that prepares students for the AP Language Examination, which is usually taken in the Spring. AP Spanish students will be required higher quality work.

Classroom Routines

Students are required to have a pencil, pen, paper and their textbook. It is recommended that they have a Spanish/English dictionary. All students need to be on task, and working on assigned Spanish activities.

Grading Policy

Students will be graded on a points system. All assignments will fall into one of the following categories: Homework, Tests/Quizzes, Classwork, and Porjects. The student's grade will be calculated by dividing the points earned by the total number of points available in the class.

  • A+: 100-98%
  • A: 97-93%
  • A-: 92-90%
  • B+: 89-88%
  • B: 87-83%
  • B-: 82-80%
  • C+: 79-78%
  • C: 77-73%
  • C-: 72-70%
  • D+: 69-68%
  • D: 67-63%
  • D-: 62-60%
  • F: 59-0%

Tardy Policy

The students and teacher will follow the school's regulations regarding tardiness.

Homework

Students will have a homework assignment everyday except on Fridays. The assignment will be related to the day's lesson. If a student is absent he/she is expected to make-up any assignments missed. If students are absent one day they will have one day to turn in any missing work. Any late homework will only receive half credit. Homework assignments will be written on the board.

Journal

All students are required to have a journal for this class. At the beginning of class each day there will be a journal question on the board which students are to answer in their journals. I will let students know when journals will be collected.

If Extra Help Is Needed...

  • Students can make an appointment to meet with me before or after school
  • Students can meet with me during tutorial

Classroom Rules

  • Students must be in their seats ready to work when the bell rings.
  • Students must show respect to others.
  • Students may not eat or drink in the classroom (water bottles are allowed).
  • There will be no interruptions when a student or the teacher is talking.
