Physical Education


Goals:

  1. Students will develop effective motor skills and understand the fundamentals of movement by practicing and analyzing purposeful movement.
  2. Students will develop and maintain a positive self-image and strive to become the best they can be through planned physical activities.
  3. Students will develop mature teamwork and cooperate in teamwork and in competition, analyze situations, find solutions to problems, obey rules, work for delayed rewards, and perservere toward a goal.
  4. Students will apply physical education experiences in written assignments and other activities requiring communication skills.

Objectives:

  1. Students will dress down and participate on a regular basis.
  2. Students will improve skills and knowledge in Physical Education.
  3. Students will develop an awareness of activities to use in leisure time to maintain and/or improve physical fitness.
  4. Students will demonstrate and improve on good sportsmanship.
  5. To promote improved social interaction.
  6. Students will develop knowledge of the rules in team and individual sport activities.
  7. Students will writ on a daily basis in a journal.

Materials Required:

  1. Gym uniform must be worn everyday. Sweats are allowed over the PE uniform but you must be ready to show your instructor your uniform. Students may wear his/her own clothes until the uniforms are delivered.
  2. A spiral-bound 70-page notebook that will stay in class.
  3. Non-marking court shoes and socks.
  4. No jewelry is allowed. Be sure to take off all rings, watches, bracelets and earrings.
  5. Hair must be kept secure and out of your face.
  6. Hat and sunglasses are allowed when outside, but not in the gym.
  7. There is seven minutes to be dressed and on your roll call number.
  8. A good attitude!

Locker Room:

  1. Boys bring your own lock. Girls will be assigned a locker. Students are responsible for locking your lockers.
  2. Leave valuables at home! Cloverdale High School and the Physical Education Department will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.
  3. Never share a locker or give your combination to another person. Problems will occur!
  4. No food, gum, candy or drinks are allowed in the locker rooms or gym.
  5. Each student is responsible for his/her property.

Medical and "Pass Grades:

  1. Notes from a medical doctor will be honored and students will be given a "Pass" for the time excused. You will need a note from a medical doctor if you are unable to participate in class for more than three days.
  2. A medical doctor's note will be honored for as long as the doctor designates.
  3. You will not be required to dress out, but may be given a special assignment.
  4. Students who are unable to participate for 1-3 days requires a written note from a parent or guardian on each day of the excuse. A note is required for each day and must be dated/signed with a phone number for instructor verification.
  5. Students who are non-participants will be required to dress-out and observe along with an academic assignment.
  6. Students are given one free non-dress per quarter, use it wisely. Once it is gone you cannot get it back.

Grading:

  1. Participation
  2. Written tests - final
  3. Skills test
  4. Notebook
  5. Sportsmanship
  6. Aerobic activity
  7. Each non-dress after the free non-dress lowers student's grade by one letter grade. It is not possible to make up a non-dress.
  8. Every three absents equals one letter grade drop. This can be made up by appointment with the instructor.
