Cloverdale High School
English I

Welcome! I look forward to working with you this year. This is your opportunity to learn. Please do not hesitate to ask questions. There are no dumb questions!!!!!

The following are some guidelines for English I. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great year.

  1. Class time and class participation counts as part of your credit, please be on time.
  2. Bring all materials (books, handouts, pen, assignment sheet, etc.) everyday.
  3. ALL WRITTEN WORK IS REQUIRED TO BE IN BLUE OR BLACK INK. No pencil please. It makes reading over a hundred papers easier.
  4. If sick, makeup tests or assignments next day at 7:30am. EXCEPT: ANY ASSIGNMENT YOU ARE GIVEN TIME TO WORK ON IN CLASS IS DUE THAT DAY. HAVE SOMEONE BRING IT IN.
  5. If you know that you are leaving early, be sure to turn in assignments or take test on day it is due. You can do that at 7:30am.
  6. LATE WORK GRADING (ENGLISH DEPARTMENT POLICY): WORK IS DUE IN CLASS ON DUE DATE OR IT IS LATE. 1 DAY = -20%, 2 DAYS = -30%, 3 DAYS = -40%. It is not accepted after 3 days.
  7. Keep an assignment sheet. Put in assignments and the grade you receive on the assignment. Also, keep your work in your classroom folder. That allows you to know how you are doing in the class. ALL ASSIGNMENTS ARE PUT ON THE BOARD BY THE END OF THE PERIOD, AND THEY ARE LEFT THERE UNTIL THE NEXT CLASS. ALSO, ASSIGNMENTS ARE IN A BOOK IN FRONT OF ROOM IN CASE YOU ARE ABSENT.
  8. Allow yourself and others to learn by LISTENING during the lessons. When I am talking, you should be listening. I will give you time to get out paper, etc. that is needed for class work. Please, do not do that while I am talking.
  9. If you do not understand something, let me know. I am here to help you. Ask questions.

Grading Policy

  • 40% of Grade = homework, class work/participation
  • 60 of Grade = tests and projects (projects are assignments where student has more than a day to complete)
